Directly or indirectly, almost all the modes of transportations are available to visit Sikkim. Sikkim is best connected by roadways. In spite of being a hilly terrain state, transportation of Sikkim is comfortable and more frequent to enjoy the ride on the world’s most beautiful valley.
Gangtok doesn’t have the airport. However, the Pakyong airport is under construction, Bagdogra is the nearest airport to reach Sikkim by air, till date. It has connecting flights to all the major cities in India as well as international flights to Bangkok and Paro. The Bagdogra airport has regular helicopter flights to Gangtok, by availing which you can reach Sikkim in the least possible time. As an alternative, you can hire taxis or shared jeeps to reach Gangtok.
There are many direct and/or connecting buses from all the major cities of India that will take you to either Gangtok or Siliguri. You can hire private or cost-effective shared taxis from Bagdora or New Jalpaiguri
The National Highway 31A connects Gangtok with Siliguri runs through the forests along the bank of river Teesta on one side and mountain ranges of Eastern Himalaya on other side.
From Siliguri you can catch jeeps and taxies to reach almost all the important tourist destinations located in both South and West Sikkim. You can also hire taxies and jeeps to travel to your destination of choice at reasonable rate. Most of the known destinations of siikim are interlinked by motor able all seasons roads.
Since Sikkim doesn’t have its own railway station, you have to avail trains till Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri. After reaching at any of these two places, you can hire private or shared taxis to reach Gangtok.
